About us

Homely Foundation opens doors.

We're an Arizona nonprofit built on a simple belief: a safe, structured home is where recovery from crisis begins — and where a permanent, stable life can be built.

Our mission

Homely Foundation opens doors for people in housing crisis. We provide safe, structured homes and the support to rebuild — for veterans, survivors of domestic violence, and young adults with disabilities — and we build permanent affordable housing so stability lasts.

Our story

Homely Foundation began with a builder's conviction: a stable home shouldn't be out of reach for people who work hard.

Our founder, Miguel Torres, has spent his career close to housing — as the owner of an Arizona insurance agency for more than 18 years, and, since 2009, as a home builder who started by rehabilitating single-family houses and went on to earn his contractor's license and build new homes from the ground up. Across those years he watched the same story repeat: home prices climbing while wages stood still, until a stable home slipped out of reach for the very people keeping our communities running.

In 2023, he founded Homely Foundation to turn that hands-on housing experience toward a harder problem than building houses — opening the doors of stable homes to the Arizonans most likely to be left outside them. Homely is an Arizona nonprofit corporation, recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 93-3271777).

We start with veterans who have disabilities: men and women who served, and who now deserve a steady place to begin again. Our first apartments open in the Phoenix metro in 2027 — the proof of our model and the foundation for everything on our roadmap: homes for survivors of domestic violence, for young adults with disabilities, and a growing portfolio of permanent, affordable housing.

For Miguel, a husband and father of three, the belief behind this work is personal: everyone deserves a place to build a life — a first night that leads to a forever home.
